Lot description
1 bifolium (27,5 x 21 cm), headed paper "Am Hof, Davos Platz, Switzerland".
Poem ms. signed. Copy of a sonnet first published in his "Animi Figura" (London, Smith, Elder, & Co., 1882, p. 49), in the section "L'amour de l'impossible" (which refers to homosexuality). The subtitle "An antique statue in the Louvre" is not present in the original. In his works Symonds (1840-1893) wrote some of the first direct references to male homosexual love in English literature.
