Lot description
5 parts in 2 vol., large folio (58,5 x 38 x 11,5/7,5 cm; weight: 22,5 kg): [2]-1/158, [2]-159/322, 323/656, [2]-658/775 pp.; 300 pl. (foxing throughout, extensive on some pp., dampstaining - some large or strong -, marg. stain to pl. 18, pl. 101 & 102 inverted, some pl. browned in vol. II, pl. 249 torn in two without lack, pl. margins in vol. II frayed).
Contemp. calf over wood, gilt ruled flat spines (rubbed, joints split). Untrimmed copy.
First edition of the first lithographed anatomical atlas. Imposing volumes, complete with their 300 plates (a few part. coloured). The volumes deal with osteology, myology, neurology, angiology and splanchnology & embryology. It was issued in parts over 10 years by the lithographer and publisher Charles Philibert de Lasteyrie. Cloquet (1790-1883) was a professor of anatomy, physiology and surgery in Paris and a member of the "Académie royale de médecine".
