Copperplate, 19,3 x 14 cm, signed below "Pet. Meert delin.", "Fred Van Hoúe schúl" (some sm. stains).
Nice portrait of the Brussels playwright, rhetorician, printer and bookseller Claudius de Grieck (1625-ca. 1670), here represented as procurator-fiscal of Mechelen. His brother Joan (1628-1699) was also a bookseller, poet and playwright. The Dutch engraver Van Hove (Haarlem ca. 1628-1698 London) moved to London from the 1660s until 1692 working for John Dunton.
