Lot description

Folio: ca. 350 engr., some full-page, other pasted on support ff., various sizes (foxing, mostly not affecting the pl.).

Three-quarter green cloth, marbled paper on covers, flat spine with ms. label (rubbed, spine faded).

A good overview of the engraved work of Onghena in all his diversity. Charles Onghena (1806-1886) was an engraver, sculptor and medalist from Ghent. Made-up volume composed of 341 engravings: 73 plates from "Médailles historiques de Belgique", 42 pl. from the "Collection Minard", the other plates showing historical and biblical scenes, scenes of the life of St. Ursula, castles and monuments, religious objects (a.o.the Shrine of St. Ursula), portraits, stained glass, bookplates, panoramas of Ghent, 2 "cartes porcelaine", etc.
Prov. [Baron Surmont de Volsberghe] (ms. ex dono from Onghena written on his portrait: "Souvenir affectueux à Mr. le B[a]ron Surmont").
