Old sheep (rubbed, some tears), gilt orn. spine with 5 raised bands (sm. def. at head & tail), red edges. Good copy.

Early edition (1st 1655) of the complete works of the Dutch statesman and national poet Jacob Cats (1577-1660), incl. his popular emblematical writings (with reduced versions of the ill.). Includes i.a. "Sinne en minne-beelden", "Self-stryt", "Houwelick", "Galathea", "Spiegel van den Ouden en Nieuwen tijdt", "'s Werelts begin, midden, eynde", "Proefsteen van den trouw-ringh", "Ouderdom, buyten-leven en hof-gedachten op Sorghvliet", etc. Illustrated with front. with engr. author's portrait, 2 engr. part-titles, 5 part-titles with engr. mark and more than 400 engr. emblematical plates.
