Lot description

Mechelen, [J.F. vander Elst?], after 1769

Engr., 13,7 x 27,7 cm (sm. defects).

Laid down on supporting paper.

Very rare funeral print featuring the Archbishops' burial vault in St. Rumbold's Cathedral in Mechelen. Engr. by J.J. van Campenhoudt who also engraved the famous triumphal chariot for the 1000-year anniversary of St. Rumbold after a drawing by W.J. Herreyns (1775, FMH 4309) and a devotional print "Litanies of Francis Xaver" (1760). Both were published by J.F. vander Elst which makes it likely that he also was the publisher of this small print made when Cardinal d'Alsace's body was buried after his death in 1759.
Ref. Mechelen SA Inv.nr. A 7.292.
Joined: Opdebeeck, A. - Coat of arms of Ignace Wirix with motto: "Juste et intrepide". Mechelen, s.n., s.d. Engr. 13,5 x 17,5 cm. (2 pcs)
