19th-c. blind-stamped and gold tooled red morocco by Lortic, covers with gilt ruled borders and frames with blind-stamped rectangular and lozenge-shaped central ornament, gilt spine on 5 raised bands, ornamental gilt sides, a.e.g., gilt inside dentelles, marbled endpapers, cloth marker. Very nice copy.

Rare Macé issue of the last "medieval" ed. of the immensely popular Roman de la Rose. This ed., a re-issue of the Paris 1537 one, was published by at least 12 booksellers! 49 woodcuts. Title printed in red and black. Printed in gothic type. Provenance: mod. bookplate of the French bibliophile Paul Grandsire of Nogent-en-Bassigny (Haute-Marne), whose collection was sold in 1930.
