3 vol., 8vo: x-144, xiv-114, viii-144 pp. (some spotting in front & at end vol. III).

Orig. green publ. cloth (corners rubbed), gilt parrot vign. stamped on front boards, gilt titled flat spines (heads & tails rubbed, inner hinges cracked), top edges gilt. Good set.

First edition of this beautiful bird book describing different species of parrots, parrakeets, lories, cockatoos, macaws and lovebirds, with special reference to their behaviour in cages and aviaries. Ill. with 81 chromoxylographed full-page pl. by Benjamin Fawcett (1808-1893), after drawings by his former apprentice, A.F. Lyndon (1836-1917), and finished by hand. The very rare 2 suppl. with 9 pl. (not mentioned in most bibliographies) as usual not present.
