2 parts in 1 vol., 8vo : 400-[6]-[2 bl.], 383-[6]-[3 bl.] pp. (browning).
Cont. vellum (binding sl. used), flat spine titled in ink, remains of ties. Good copy.
Very rare Antwerp reprint of the popular letters of the Spanish writer Guevara (d. 1545). This classic work was first printed in Valladolid, 1539 and was many times edited & reprinted in the principal European languages, perhaps best known under the French title "Epîtres dorées". The "Epistolas familiares" are written as stylistic exercises in the form of formal essays, but contain one of the few accounts we have on the Revolt of the Comuneros (1520-1521), a Castilian civil uprising against Charles V. Woodcut mark on title. Sm. red stamp on title. Ref. Peeters-Fontainas 553. - Palau 110227. - BCNI 8605. - STCV 6827158 (no copy in Antwerp libraries). - Not in Goldsmith Spanish (BL), Bn-Opale plus.
