Contemp. calf, gilt decorated spine with raised bands (used, split joints, old restorations).
Dutch translation of "Histoire métallique de la République de Hollande" (first 1687), a representative collection of medals illustrating the history of the Dutch Republic, collected by the scholarly French canon Pierre Bizot (1630-1696). With an additional part on the funeral monuments for the Dutch heroes (Tromp, de Ruyter, Hein, etc.). Engr. ill.: front., title, 124 plates numbered 1-123 (1st part, n. 87 missing, 2 additional pl. 94* and 95*, n. 83 and n. 84 on 1 leaf), 15 lettered A-P (2nd part, incl. 1 fold. pl. titled "Tombe des Princes d'Orange à Delft" by Swidde), 2 portraits of William III and Mary Stuart signed "ex formis P. Mortier", 141 ill. in text depicting medals, 3 head- and 2 endpieces.
