The second Italian edition of Serlio's treatises on geometry and perspective (1st ed.: 1545), bound together. Books I and II were written and published before books III and IV on architecture, as they served as introductory volumes required in order to understand the underlying principles of architecture and visual representation. Serlio's treatises on architecture became the standard textbook on architecture and geometry throughout the sixteenth century as they introduced a standardisation of antique architecture for the Renaissance architect. With 130 woodcut illustrations, including 17 full-page blocks. Title within architectural woodcut border of the Venice 1537 edition of Book IV. Colophon within woodcut scrollwork border with central publishers mark.
