Nice caricature drawing of a bourgeois gentleman by Henry Monnier (1799-1877), who was a student of Antoine-Jean Gros and a central figure in the Parisian cultural scene. He counted Alexandre Dumas, Honoré de Balzac, Théophile Gautier and Eugène Delacroix among his close friends. He was also active as an actor and had created the comic chararacter "Monsieur Prudhomme", whom Balzac said was the "illustration of the type of the Parisian middle class".
