Folio: [186 (of 198)] ff., 35 ll. (quire b missing, ff. [3-6] bound after quire c, blank ff. [1, 76, 106, 108] missing, f. i2 with stain, from another copy ?, a few very small repairs to blank margins; large stains on last 4 ff.).
19th-c. quarter leather, marbled paper boards, gilt spine on 4 raised bands with leather label, marbl. endpapers (rubbed, front joint split).
Editio princeps of the (Northern) Middle Dutch translations of the "Vitas patrum", printed in Brussels by the Brothers of the Common Life (ca. 1476) and based on Hieronymus and other sources. Large woodcut border on a2r. Woodcut mark at the end. Printed in Gothic type, in 2 cols. Capital spaces with guide-letters. Decoration: rubricated throughout with nice larger capitals. Two 7-line and one 6-line initials in red, blue, green and white on a2r (7), l1r (7) and o1r (6) - these two with red penwork extending into the inner margin. Five 5-line initials in blue (a5r, f5v, g2r, l3r, z7v), and one 6-line red initial (z5r).
