BLYHOOFT, Zacharias

Flora, or The allegory of summer.

Middelburg, 1677

Drawing, pen and brown ink, grey and brown wash, framing lines in brown ink, 20 x 15,4 cm, laid paper, signed and dated in ink at lower right corner "Z. Blijhooft fec. 1677" (trimmed to or just within the framing line, paper sl. toned).

Under passe-partout, under wooden frame (not studied outside frame).

Zacharias Blyhooft (ca. 1630-1681) was a Dutch painter, of whom little is known; he lived in Middelburg from 1658/9 until his death in 1681, but probably learnt his trade elsewhere. This signed drawing features a standing woman in profile holding a horn with flowers, probably identifiable as Flora or Summer.
