Lot description

12mo: 404-[3-1 bl.] pp. (some light soiling).

Contemp. calf (sl. rubbed), boards with central blind-ruled frame and blind-stamped corner pieces, spine with 3 raised bands (front joint splitting, sm. def. at head & tail), traces of ties. Good copy.

Only edition of this charming emblem book by the Jesuit Neo-Latin poet Willem van Hees (1601-1690), designer of St Michael's church at Leuven. The 116 woodcut illustrations depict musical instruments, angels, etc. by J.C. Jegher, after E. Quellinus. Woodcut ornament on title. Mark at end.
