Lot description

Paris, Melchior Tavernier, 1635-1636

Etching and engraving, 26,5 x 33,5, laid paper, signed in the plate at lower left cartouche "ABosse in. et fe." (sl. toned paper).

Under passe-partout.

In a room with tapestries on the wall and a carved fireplace, a man is seen stroking a woman sitting on his knees while an old servant is making the bed. The title "Tactus" is framed in an inventive cartouche with two arms. The whole is captured in an ornate frame. Part of a series depicting the Five Senses (5 pl.). Very good, early impression of the 1st state (of 2) with wide margins.
Ref. Duplessis (Bosse) 1075. - Lothe, "L'Oeuvre gravé d'Abraham Bosse graveur parisien du XVIIe siècle", Paris, 2008, no. 321.
