The windmills of Holland remain a source of inspiration and reverie for many. This was certainly true for the Dutch landscape artist Philips Koninck (1619-1688) who captured the beauty of the Dutch landscape in many of his panoramic drawings and paintings. This drawing, which approaches the soft tones and renderings found in many of Koninck's drawings, features a landscape with meadows and a multitude of windmills near Haarlem.
Prov. Bruce Ingram (1866-1963), journalist and art collector (pencil note on passe-partout). - Michael Ingram (a gift for his 21st birtday from his uncle Bruce). - Sotheby's sale 08/12/2005, no. 81.
