Lot description

Engraving, 24 x 16,1 cm, laid paper with watermark (hand with cross, Briquet 11106), signed in the plate at lower margin "Joannes Collaer scalp." (trimmed to the borderline, some sm. creases, sm. hole near Fama's right knee, edges reinforced).

Under passe-partout.

A winged allegorical figure spreads fame all over the world by blowing trumpets adorned with flags covered with eyes, ears and tongues. With engr. Latin text in lower margin. Only known state.

Joined: 1. Sneyders, Michiel. After Hendrick Goltzius - Mary Magdalene crying. Illustration to page 92 of Aubert le Mire's "Sanctorum Principum ... Imagines" (Antwerp, 1613).
