Lot description
10 engravings, 13,5 x 10 cm, laid paper with wide margins, signed in the first plate "Ieronimus W. fe. / M.D.V. Inv." (two tiny holes to 1st plate, some pl. spotted, one print with foxing).
Loose sheets.
Complete set of 10 engraved plates from the "Tyrannorum praemia", with representations of male and female slayers of tyrants. The booklet was originally published with a title page and a 4-page introduction by the publisher Willem van Haecht. This part is missing here. The series was made after designs by various Antwerp artists and can be seen as a political pamphlet during the years of revolt against the Spanish Habsburg reign in the Low Countries. Each plate is provided with 4 lines of text in Latin and Dutch.
