Lot description

The Hague, ca. 1850

Drawing, aquarelle with charcoal and graphite, laid paper with watermark (Honig Lion: Churchill 160), signed in graphite at lower left corner "J. Bosboom".

Under passe-partout.

A study sheet with women shopping at a market nearby a city gate. Bosboom (1817-1891) was a Dutch painter working in The Hague who was known for his street scenes and church interiors in the style of Golden Age artists such as Pieter Saendredam. His works are now in the collections of Boijmans in Rotterdam and the Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam. He is considered an early member of the "Haagse School".

Joined: Monogrammist J.N. (possibly Johann Nussbiegel) - Explosion of the entrepots of Haarlem, on 13th of June 1819. Aquarelle, 15 x 19,5 cm, laid paper, signed and dated at lower right corner "J.N. 1819". Mounted on thick paper by left corners. (2 pcs)
