Lot description

Mezzotint, 25,1 x 17,5 cm, laid paper with unidentified watermark (Letter W), signed in the plate "C. Dusart in. et fe." (trimmed unevenly to borderline, greyish impression).

Under passe-partout.

One of the earliest examples of the application of mezzotint in the Low Countries. The print celebrates the victory of William III, King of England and Prince of Orange over the French troops of Louis XIV at the gates of Namur on the 2nd of September 1695. From the series "General gladness about the siege of Namur" (6 pl.). Late impression of the 4th and final state.
