Oblong folio: [1 (of 2)] ff. + 29 (of 42) engraved plates (a number of these cut short, some prints laid down on mod. paper, some tears, toned and stained).

19th-c. dark marocco , spine with 5 raised bands, gilt inside dentelles, marbled endpapers (sl. rubbed, corners def., lower cover scratched).

A very rare original ed. of this writing manual with writing examples by J. Van de Velde, Hondius and Petrus Bales. 4 plates from a similar Hondius book loosely inserted.

Engraved by the Van Doetecum brothers after Hans Vredeman de Vries (title and pl. 4 and 10 missing), publ. by G. de Jode in 1565 (second and final state). Ref.
