Lot description

(Hammersmith, reprinted by William Morris at the Kelmscott Press, sold by Bernard Quaritch), [1893]

Large 4to (some ff. sl. browned).

Publisher's binding: limp overl. vellum with visible sewing and ties of brown silk, flat spine titled in gilt.

In a very neat typography printed in red & black in Troy and Chaucer (glossary) types. Illustrated with an engraved title on a rich floral background and within a large orn. woodcut border, a large orn. border on p. 1, decorations in the margins and large initials. Kelmscott's mark at colophon. The text was corrected for the press by Henry Halliday. Edition limited to 310 unnumbered copies (incl. 10 on vellum), one of the 300 on Batchelor hand-made paper. The work was finished on the 15th December 1892.
