Publisher's binding by F. Sangorski & G. Sutcliffe after Anne Estelle Rice: half vellum, green & pink floral patterned paper on covers, green lettered label on front cover, gilt titled flat spine.

First deluxe edition limited to 200 copies, one of the 30 on Japanese vellum (n. 5) signed by the author and artist. "Fourth book issued by the Beaumont Press and the first printed by hand" (cfr justification). Illustrated by Anne Estelle Rice with 13 illustrations in text, hand-coloured by the wife of Cyril W. Beaumont. Mark with the ship at colophon. Nichols (1893-1944) is known as a First World War poet and a playwright.
Cyril William Beaumont (1891-1976), considered one of the most important dance historians of the 20th century (he published more than 40 books on ballet), founded the Beaumont Press in 1917 in the basement of his bookshop in the Charing Cross Road. "Mr Beaumont was inspired by the work of Morris, Pissarro and Cobden-Sanderson, and his object in founding his Press was to present the work of contemporary writers in a fine form" (Tomkinson). He published 26 works (until 1931) on an Albion hand-press and with Caslon-type. The papers used for the bindings were specially designed for the works they covered.
