Lot description

8vo: [8, incl. front]-406-[2] pp. (sl. browning).

Contemp. calf, orn. gilt spine with raised bands and label, sprinkled edges (sl. rubbed). Nice copy.

First edition ill. with 1 engr. title and 100 half-page engr. emblems by Jan Luyken (1649-1712) and his son Caspar (1672-1708); each with a caption, Bible quotations and a poem. The plates are reduced copies of C. Weigel's "Ethica naturalis" (Nuremberg, ca. 1700). The subjects represent scenes of daily life, the occupations of the months, entertainment, etc.
