Very rare French trsl. of this work by E. Hoyle (1672-1769), called "the father of whist". It describes the rules of this game and other ones: the Italian card game "tressette", piquet, the dice game "craps" and billiards. Hoyle's name still lives on in the English expression "according to Hoyle", meaning "strictly according to the rules".
