Ethiopian manuscript prayerbook.

Parchment, 20 x 18 cm, untrimmed : [250] pp. (some marg. or central holes due to the quality of the parchment, some traces of use, esp. at the end, some reinforcements).

Brown leather on wooden boards, blind tools with central cross on covers, flat spine (sm. defects at head & tail). Good copy.

Written in black and red ink throughout, but for the 1st two lvs in later black ink. Illustrated with a later painted frontisp. representing Virgin and Child, 2 angels and a smaller figure (priest ?) in left lower side, protected by a piece of cloth. Naive picture in bright colours. Joined an Ethiopian ornamented and manuscript scroll, s.d. Parchment, +/- 151 x 9,5 cm, written in black and red ink. Used, several holes. A protective (?) scroll illustrated in colours with a figure holding a sword, another one facing a small devil and an ornament at the end. Such scrolls were made the length of the owner in order to protect them from head to foot. (2 pcs)
